Pretzel Bites. Mmmm.

I discovered this recipe on Pinterest and oh.my.gosh.   These little bites taste just like the mall pretzels.

I made the dough in the bread machine while the kids were at school and then we made them for snack when we got home.    To make cinnamon sugar ones I just brushed the bites in butter and then rolled in a sugar/cinnamon mixture.

Easy, yummy and inexpensive!

WIP Wednesday

I have completed TWO quilts this week and both of them I can’t share.   How much of a bummer is that!?!

I figure if I can’t share, at least I can record that I did something this week.

WIP Wednesday at Freshly Pieced

So, here’s what’s happening and what’s lacking in my sewing room:

COMPLETED:

  •  Bake Shop Tutorial Quilt for this pattern:  I just finished binding last night and am putting the finishing touches on the tutorial today.   HOORAY.
  • Kona Challenge Quilt for the Atlanta Modern Quilt Guild:  Oh, man.   I really really needed the internet’s opinion on this one but, alas, we were sworn to secrecy for this project.    We’re having a contest, so it had to be  a blind vote.    It was due last Sunday and I literally finished stitching on my label 15 minutes before I turned it in.   Phew.
  • Go Anywhere Bag

COMPLETED TOPS AWAITING QUILTING:

  • The Beach quilt is done and ready to be stitched up.   This poor thing has been put on the back burner, I’m looking forward to getting it finished!

NO PROGRESS:

  • Gavin’s Quilt
  • August Simply Strings block – stitching today
  • August Sew Bee It block – stitching today
  • September Simply Strings – fabric arrived

Completed Projects: 3

Currently In Progress: 4

Pay It Forward – Handmade.

I was linked to a Pay-It-Forward giveaway post by one of my Bee. buddies.

I definitely think the world could use a little more kindness, so I jumped at the chance to join in.

Now, it’s my turn to keep this going!

Here’s the deal:

I will make something handmade for the first 3 people to comment on this post.    It will be a surprise and I won’t tell you when I mail it.   It will be helpful if you have a blog, flickr, or pinterest so that I can gather inspiration for something that will make your day!

The original post says I have 365 days to make this for you, but I’m going to say, you will have it before the end of 2011.

The only catch is that if you are one of the first 3, you have to agree to keep this going.

And even if you aren’t one of the first 3, consider doing something nice for someone you don’t know anyways.    A little bit of kindness goes a long way!

xo, Lindsey

P.S. Please make sure your email is not hidden so that I can contact you. :)

Noodlehead :: Go Anywhere Bag

First off, I love this bag.  LOVE!

I was very excited when Anna asked me if I would like to test her new bag pattern.    I’ve made a few of her tutorials and the 241 tote and I knew I would love anything new she was creating.   She  definitely didn’t disappoint!

It’s a decent size bag, but well organized.   I can’t stand big bags that are just empty shells where all of your stuff is impossible to find.   There’s 3 divided pockets on the front and one big pocket on the back.    I like that the pockets are easily accessible so I could drop my keys in and retrieve them quickly.

It holds a TON of stuff.   I took it today on a trip out of town and I managed to carry all of this:

  • camera
  • wallet
  • makeup bag
  • 2 snack bags of pretzels
  • epi pens
  • cellphone
  • pen + day planner
  • my glasses in their case
  • sunglasses
  • a leapster in it’s case
  • and a partridge in a pear tree   (i kid…)

I know I won’t be carrying this much everyday, but it makes me happy to know I could carry that much if I wanted.   Options are good, ha!

The interior has a slip pocket that’s perfect for  my phone and a pen.   Lots of ways to customize too.   I chose to use resin snaps on the large outside pocket and the inside slip pocket and I added binding to the outside pockets for an extra pop of color.

Noodlehead – Go Anywhere Pattern

Well written pattern and great end result, A++ in my book!

Tutorial :: Scrappy Selvedge Bag Strap

I’m in the midst of testing a bag pattern and just finished making the straps.  I love the scrappy look and thought you might like to see how I make mine.

You will need:

  • Fabric Glue
  • A sewn bag strap/handle

  • Your sewing machine

My bag straps are sewn and ready.  Now  I need to cut pieces of fabric down to selvedge size (about .5 inch) of varying lengths.

I layer the pieces and overlap a few, arranging until I’m happy with the layout.

Once you’re happy with the placement you are simply going to glue the pieces down to your strap.

Cover the scraps with a thin coating, making sure to get the edges if you dislike fraying.

I like the frayed look, so I just randomly dot the glue.

I’m using  my favorite fabric glue, Liquid Stitch.

Here’s everything glued and ready to sew!

I start by sewing a line down the center and follow up with one on either side.

(I line up with the edge of my presser foot for the outside rows of stitching.  You can also add an additional two lines in between the center/right and center/left for less fraying).

Beware, these are addicting!

Once you finish your project  I think you’ll find it really adds a little something extra to make your bag one-of-a-kind!

Enjoy!  If you make a scrappy bag strap, I’d love to see it!  Feel free to add it to the LRstitched flickr page.

And she’s off!

My baby girl had her first day of preschool yesterday.  I have never seen a child more excited to grow up!

On the way to drop her off she said ‘You’re gonna drop me off right? And not stay?  I can stay by myself, cause I’m a big girl?’.

Yes, baby.  You’re a big girl now!

I’m slowly getting into a groove and realizing just how much can be accomplished with a quiet house.

I finished up a few more bee blocks today.   July is done and it feels much better to be caught up.

Mary requested a block pattern from the book  Block Party:

and Sabah requested a Log Cabin block:

I also got a surprise in my mailbox.  A  misplaced package I’ve been waiting on from Moda arrived.    The circle quilt tutorial will finally be on it’s way, hooray!  I know it’s been a long wait.

Hope your week is off to a great start,

Lindsey

ATLMQG Retreat

I am so tired (or I should say sew tired), what a weekend!

Saturday was the Atlanta Modern Quilt Guild’s 1st annual Retreat which happened to also be my 29th birthday.

My hubby had to work, but I am so thankful my Mom was willing to watch my little monsters so I could go.  Best birthday gift ever.  12 hours of sewing, friends, food and laughter.

Our social coordinators Chris and Pam organized a great  event.  (THANK YOU ladies!)

We met at Chris’ neighborhood clubhouse.  It was large and sunny (and freezing). When I walked in I thought, this has got to be a dream.   We had snacks, tunes to work to, and the place was stuffed full of 21 quilters STUFF.   And might I add that most of us brought way more than could ever be sewn in 12 hours.    You know, dream big, and all that.

I am behind on my Bee blocks for July, so I took those 3 along with my 3 for August.   That was the priority project and because I would breeze through those in no time flat, I also took my beach quilt so that I could make the backing, baste and FMQ it.   HA! hahahahaha!

This is what I looked like most of the time. (I’m in the striped tee.)

I spent more time contemplating sewing (and running my mouth!) than actually sewing.   It’s surprisingly difficult to get a lot done when there are so many fun people to yack with and ooh and awe over their projects and fabric.     It also helps to make sure you have all pieces and directions when you won’t have access to the internet.  oops.

I still managed to get 3 blocks completed and had a LOT of fun too.  We played a fun dice game that Pam learned about when she visited the Nashville Modern Quilt Guild.   You have to bring 3 fat quarters as your entry fee.   On the first round everyone has 3 FQ’s so they get to roll 3 die.   The die had dots, stars and the words left and right on them.    If you got a dot you got to keep one of your FQ, if you had a star you had to throw one in the pile in the middle, if you had left/right you had to pass the other to the person sitting next to you in that direction.

You keep going around rolling (if you only have 2 FQ in your hand, you roll 2 die on your turn, 1 FQ, 1 die,  0 FQ, no roll) until only 1 person is left with any fabric in their hands. They win!

It was hilarious and the game changed so quickly from you being out to your neighbor rolling a direction and you being right back in again.    We played twice once in the morning and once in the afternoon and the winners, Chris and Amy walked away with 42 fat quarters each.   I love any game that ends in you winning fabric!

Here’s the blocks I finished at retreat:

Modern Cross block for Jennifer

Liberated Cross Block for Sarah

I cannot wait until the next retreat so I can hang out with these peeps again!  Seriously an awesome group of people that have become friends I can’t wait to see each month.

A fabric surprise

I was pleasantly surprised to get an email last week that I had won a giveaway!

Ellison Lane Quilts introduced me to Karen Gray and her shop Fabricpalooza.  She was so generous to not only offer a giveaway on Jennifer’s blog, but also offered another on her own.

I entered, like I do on most giveaways I come across,  it’s fun and what the heck, maybe one day I’ll get lucky.

Well, I am feeling incredibly lucky!  I received a beautifully wrapped package and also tucked with the package was a magazine.

Karen was sweet to send me a copy of Quilt Sampler too and I was excited to discover that there was a story about her and her shop.    Pick it up if you can, it’s a great story and there’s a beautiful pattern that she wrote inside.   Another ‘to quilt’ has gone on my list!

And inside the pretty wrapping was a fat quarter bundle of Joel Dewberry’s new Heirloom.   Oh my, it is beautiful.

So, a BIG thank you to Karen.  You were so generous to offer this up on top of the bundle you had already given away.  I am so grateful for a chance to get to make something pretty with this stack of gorgeous fabric!

Bittersweet!

You know what I did today?

I sent my baby to Kindergarten.

This tiny little thing….

Is a Kindergartener now.

I’m still trying to figure out how five and a half years have already passed!

My other little one will start full time preschool in a few weeks.  I asked her today what I was going to do now that her and her brother would be gone all day.

She said I would be just fine, and maybe I could paint, do laundry and work on my homework.   Oh, little mouths.

I know I will be just fine, but boy, it’s an adjustment when you’re so used to spending your days with these sweet faces!

I’ll be back to blogging more regularly and catching up on some tutorials and things that have gotten pushed aside!

xo
