Handmade Holiday :: Teacher Gifts

We had 7 teachers to give to this year and I was struggling trying to come up with the perfect gift.

I really wanted them to know how much I appreciate their part in my children’s lives and for a crafter, something handmade is about as ‘heartfelt’ as it gets.

So handmade it was!

I came up with the idea to give them each a corkboard tile that I stenciled and adorned with thumbtacks made from fabric covered buttons.     I LOVE how it turned out and each teacher seemed to really like their gift.

I found some ‘notebook’  scrapbook paper and cut it up into cards to tack to the front.     I had the kids sign their name and then we wrapped them up.

I used this tutorial for the thumbtacks and just used a larger size button.    The corkboards are the 12×12 tiles that come in sets of 4 and I made a quatrefoil stencil using my Silhouette.

I’m trying to think ahead for next year’s gifts, any ideas?

Handmade Holiday :: Santa Pillow

Can you believe it’s only 4 days until Christmas!?

I’m honestly in a bit of shock about that!    I took a break from business sewing in December this year, and that was the best thing I’ve ever done.    This month has flown by stress free and I’ve had time to really enjoy crafting for my own home and spending time with my family.

I wanted to share the Holiday projects I’ve been working on over the next few days.

Up first, is my Santa Pillow.

I found an adorable Santa pillow through Pinterest and knew I could make one myself.    After finding the image I wanted, I used my Silhouette to cut a stencil.

My little girl picked out ‘sparkly’ red paint for us and we stenciled it onto natural linen.

I originally planned to just have a plain linen pillow, but I decided patchwork was more fun.    I love how cheerful it turned out and it goes perfectly with the ‘candy cane’ ticking pillow I made last year.

Have you made anything special for the Holiday’s this year?

Keyka Lou Retirement Sale

I just found out that the lovely Keyka Lou will be retiring 16 patterns on 1/1/2012.    Those that are being discontinued are on sale now for $3.00 until the 1st.

Several that I’ve loved from afar were on the chopping block, so I snapped those suckers up!   Look forward to seeing some Half-Moon, Lots of Pockets, Pixie and Small Satchel Handbags coming out of my sewing room soon, ;) .

Best,

Lindsey
