Triangle Mini Finished!

I am SO excited to have this little quilt done!

When I started on it back in February, I wasn’t sure I would ever get it finished.

I’m trying to make an effort to push through my WIPs, so I’m checking this off the list!

Ali let me test out her Janome at the ATLMQG retreat in March and I zoomed through the quilting with her walking foot.

(Loooooved her walking foot and automatic thread cutter.   serious LOVE.)  I need to get a picture of the reverse so you can see the quilting she helped me pick.

One of my biggest hold ups with finishing this was that my seam allowances were not perfect.

There were areas that I definitely did not have 1/4″ room  and when I tried to bind it traditionally,  it cut off several of the triangle tops.

I wasn’t happy with that so I let it sit for a few weeks.

Then I had a lightbulb moment…

Blanket.Stitch.Binding.

AHH, you have no idea how much I love it!

I adore hand stitching and the color this adds and it works really well for a wall hanging.

Lecien had sent me some Cosmos thread to try out and I used #271 for this project.

I trimmed off all of the seam allowance and then I used all 6 strands for a chunky stitch which covers the raw edge beautifully.

This thread is so silky!

I smile every time I see this little quilt.   So glad I didn’t give up on the triangles!

Thanks for sharing in the process with me, Lindsey

Zakka Along Week 1 :: Zig Zag Tote

Are you ready to sew along??

I hope so because  it’s time to kick off the 1st week of the Zakka Style Sew Along!

I’ve got a bit more information to share regarding our weekly link up and the fun prizes we have in store.

Let’s get that out of the way and then it’s time to head over to Sew Fantastic to see Terri’s Zig Zag Tote!

During the Sew Along we will have 24 wonderful prizes that you are eligible to win if you complete that weeks project.

Starting today and every Monday following, I will add a link up for that weeks project.    You will have from Monday through the following Sunday at 11:59 pm EST to complete and add your project.

You don’t have to have a blog, but you will need a photo hosting  (flickr, photobucket, etc) account to be able to link your project.

I will announce the winner on the next Monday post and will add the link up and prize info for the next week.   So on and so on through the 24 weeks.

You may begin linking up your finished Zig Zag Totes today through Sunday April 8th at 11:59 pm EST for a chance to win a Fat Quarter Bundle of Washi by Rashida Coleman-Hale!

This weeks prize is sponsored by Timeless Treasures.

You are only eligible to win the weekly prizes if you submit during the time frames.   BUT, remember that you can link up at ANY time if you can’t keep up with the schedule.   We would all love to see your finished project whenever you’re able to complete it!

As a bonus, after the first 6 projects I will do a random drawing from ALL entries submitted for Projects 1-6, so if  you missed the deadline you still have a chance for a prize.  :)    I will do that for Projects 7-12, 13-18 and 19-24.

Phew, I know that was a total overload of information, so I hope I haven’t completely confused you!  Please email me or comment with any questions you have.

——–

Okay, let’s go visit Terri and see her take on the Zig Zag Tote.   I’m off to get started on mine!

To link up your project, click on the frog below and follow the instructions.

Happy Sewing, Lindsey

P.S.  I added a Zakka Sew Along page where you can easily find all posts about the sew along.

Zakka Sew Along :: Sourcing Supplies

I’ve had several emails and comments about where to purchase linen and other supplies for the sew along.

I’ve put together a list of places to buy some of the supplies used in the book.

All of the sources I’m sharing today are online shops, but do check around your local fabric shops to see what you can find!

Robert Kaufman :: Essex linen/cotton blend and Essex Yarn Dyes available at:

Grayline Fabrics :: Judy solid linen

Fabric-store.com :: Middle weight linen

Zip-It

Zakka Boutique

Sugar Carousel

Bag Is Good

While Baby Naps

Cosmo Floss by Lecien available at:

Perle Cotton

Heather Bailey Designer Felt

Lupin (UK store)

One of the Flock

These shops are not the only places to find the supplies you need, but I think will help you get prepared for the projects ahead.

I also had a question about how much linen is used in all of the projects.    I combined each requirement and came up with about 10 yards total to complete all 24 projects.

Remember, you don’t have to use linen.   Use what you love and what your budget allows!

This list does not cover all of the supplies you will need, so make sure to read through your book and make a list so you know what you have on hand or what you need to stock up on.

Looking forward to tomorrow!   The Zig Zag tote is up first, I hope you’re ready for some fun and amazing giveaways as we sew together over the next 24 weeks!

Lindsey
