Sneaky the Turtle

Is this little guy (gal?) cute or what?

My husband found him hiding by our house while he was cutting the grass.

The kids have named him Sneaky.   They love going outside each morning to see if he’s still in the backyard ‘hiding’.

And, he usually is.   He’s currently made himself at home in my unused garden bed.

Hopefully he’ll hang around for a little while.

I think it will be a sad day when this little girl can’t find him in the backyard anymore.

She’s quite smitten!

Zakka Along, Patchwork Ribbon Inspiration

I wanted to link you all to 2 of our sew along partipants who’ve finished the patchwork ribbon.

A few people started the project and found it to be hard to deal with because of the raw edges and the fraying threads.

Linda and Simone came up with 2 alternative and creative ways to make the ribbon.

They inspired me and I thought they might inspire you to!

Paper Pieced Mini Quilt

I participated in a mini quilt swap between the Atlanta and Ireland Modern Quilt Guilds that just wrapped up.

This is the quilt I made for my lovely partner, Eva.

I was a bit intimidated in my pairing because she has such great taste and talent!

I stalked her flickr favorites and soon realized that we have very similar likes.

She had a lot of paper pieced patterns ( Ringo Pie-style) marked as favorites, and I’ve really wanted to give that style of piecing a try.

I am so glad I decided to give it a go.   What an absolute thrill to complete!

This is the type of project that gives you such a sense of satisfaction.    It’s like putting together a puzzle and as each section would come together I was straight up jumping around with excitement. ha!  I’m a total nerd!

I would have never thought I could make something so intricate.   Paper piecing is an amazing technique.

The pattern is from the Sew Out Loud quilt along from a few months ago.   All free patterns that are blow-you-away amazing!

This particular one was created by Charise from Charise Creates.    You can find it here.

Her post includes lots of tutorial links that help you get started paper piecing with freezer paper templates.

The quilt is still en route, so I hope I got it right!

Mine has arrived from Ireland and I need to get it photographed to share with you.

It’s beautiful!  (Thank you Eva!)

Thanks for visiting,

Lindsey

This weeks project is the Patchwork Ribbon designed by Melody Miller (of Ruby Star fame).

I love the unexpected usefulness of this project!  I would have never dreamed up making fabric ribbon, but it is such a great idea and would really be the cherry on top of a handmade gift.

You may begin linking up your finished Patchwork Ribbon today through Sunday July 22nd at 11:59 pm EST for a chance to win the Cosmo thread sampler from Lecien!
