Sewing Summit, Pellon Projects, Etsy, oh my!

I have several things to share and felt a bit silly doing a separate post for each.

So this is a random mash up post to get it all out there!    If you ever meet me in person, this is not unlike my personality.   Once I start talking I tend to word vomit on a zillion topics.

I don’t get out much, lol.

(1)  Sewing Summit!

I’m super excited to share that I’ll be teaching this year.

SS13imaspeaker SS13imteaching

My class will be on Sewing with Leather and will be a 2-part lecture + hands on class.

The lecture will go over  sourcing, sewing, and caring for leather/suede in your sewing projects along with inspiration, tips and tricks.

In the hands on class we will take what we learned in the lecture and put it to use in making a tote bag with suede accents.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow, April 16th at 10am MST!

It’s going to be lots of fun, I hope to see you there!

(2)  Pellon Projects

I signed on last year to be a Pellon Projects Designer and I turned in my first tutorial a couple weeks ago.

It’s for a roll up cosmetics case.   I made these for swap gifts at Sew South and just loved how the pattern turned out.  I can’t wait to share it with you.

I’m still waiting to hear when the tutorial will go live, but I will be sure to keep you updated.     The Pellon website was just given a fresh new look, so pop over and peek if you haven’t been by in awhile.   It looks great!

(3)  I finally updated my Etsy shop, and have large and small clutches and key fobs available.    Use coupon LR15OFF for 15% off, cause I love ya!

etsupdate

(4)  I’m thankful to welcome a new sponsor, Lima Sews!

Linh has a gorgeous Etsy shop full of modern fabrics and also offers long arm quilting too.

What else…

I’m way behind on sharing about Sew South.    I got home, then it was Easter, last week was Spring Break and this week I’m planning a baby shower for my sister’s first babe.   Feeling a little cuckoo lately.     I also finally got with the times and joined Instagram.  You can follow me @lrstitched if you’d like to see my bits of randomness.

I think that’s it.   Hope you’re having a great start to the week and that you and your loved ones are safe.   I just read about what happened in Boston and am so sad.    I just cannot understand the why behind this.     Trying to remember that there is more love than hate in this world and focus on that.    Thoughts and prayers are with these families.

Valentine Hop Winner + Orbit QAL

I have the winner from the Valentine’s hop.

Congrats to Feathered Nest Studio, you’ve won the fat quarter bundle of MonaLuna fabrics from Lima Sews!

featheredneststudio

Great idea! A favorite childhood craft of mine was definitely building miniatures for my dolls! Little furniture, little dishes, houses, etc. Thanks for the chance to win

I also have some info on a Quilt Along that will start Feb 18th!

I designed a free quilt pattern for RJR fabrics new line by Mary McGuire called “Cold Spring Dreams”.   Available in March of 2013

cold

The quilt is called “Orbit” and finishes at 60 x 60.  A great snuggle quilt size!   It can also easily be increased to bed size by adding a few extra rows.

I’m increasing my sample, below,  to a king size to use in our master bedroom.

The quilt along will run for 6 weeks starting on Feb 18th and closing on April 1st.

The full PDF pattern will be available on Feb 18th, so you will be able to move ahead of schedule if you’d like!

I will be sewing along with you using the “Cold Spring Dream” line and you’ll have a chance to win some for yourself at the close of the sew along.

You, of course, can use whatever fabric suits your fancy!   I think the design would be striking in all solids too.

•••••

Feb 11th, :: Getting Ready! (fabric selection + supply list)

Feb 18th, Week 1 :: Pattern release + cutting/organizing

Feb 25th, Week 2 & 3 :: Piecing + quilt layout

March 18th, Week 5 & 6 :: Quilting & Binding + Link Up Opens to add your finished project

April 1st, Link Up Closes and Winner selected from photo pool

•••••

On April 1st I will randomly choose an entry to win a fat quarter bundle of Cold Spring Dreams, donated by RJR fabrics.

Finished quilts and quilt tops are accepted.  (It must be the entire quilt top, not just a portion).

I had a fabric photo shoot this morning to show you how beautiful the colors are!

I hope you’ll consider joining in.  The quilt is simple to put together, so it should be a fun and relaxing time!

Join in the LRstitched flickr group and feel free to grab a blog button to spread the word!

You can also click on the Orbit Quilt Along tab at the top the page to find all posts related to the quilt along.

Giveaway :: Daisy Janie “New Leaf” FQ Bundle

Happy Monday!

new-leaf

Today I have a giveaway  from Honey Bee Good.

Karen is offering a fat quarter bundle of the beautiful new fabric from Daisy Janie called “New Leaf”.

These are not typically my colors, I’m not a big fan of yellows and oranges, but these are truly gorgeous.

I purchased some of this new line to make a little mini quilt for Valentine’s Day.

I quilted it with 12 wt thread from Aurifil.   This is a very heavy weight thread and it stitches really beautifully.

This color is a variegated pink, #4660.

——————-

To enter to win the fq bundle, just leave a comment!

Open to all readers.   I will use random.org to pick a winner on Friday, Feb 8th.

If you just can’t wait to buy some, you can find “New Leaf” here.

Karen has also put together gift sets of fabric that include 6 fat 1/8″ pieces and a coordinating wooden spool of thread all packaged in a pretty box.

Use code GIFTBOX at checkout to receive free shipping on these boxes until February 9th!  You can find all of them here.

Good luck!

P.S.  I will share a free pattern for the heart mini this week!

I wanted to share a few things that caught my eye this week!

I discovered that Riley Blake is coming out with 108″ wide quilt backing in a few colors of their chevrons and dots.

This excites me because sometimes you just don’t want to piece your quilt back!

Fort Worth Fabric Studio has these colors/prints available for preorder now.    Scheduled to arrive in June 2013.

At Honey Bee Good, Karen has some yummy new fabric instock.   I really love this new line by Daisy Janie called “New Leaf”.

It’s so vibrant and cheerful.   I will be giving away at Fat Quarter Bundle of this line on Monday and sharing a project I made with some of the fabric!

The shop also has a lovely collection of fabric from Sara Lee Parker Textiles.    These are hand screen-printed here in Georgia.

I’ve added a few patterns to my wishlist from Go To Patterns.

As we get closer to Sew South, I’ve been trying to sew up a few more tops for me to take.

The Miss Mod looks like an easy and comfy blouse.  I’m trying to decide if it would be flattering on me, I’ve never tried on a top similar.   Have you?

I also like this bag pattern.   I cringe every time I pay $3.00 at Target for a gift bag.   Especially when you know it’s going straight to the trash.

The gray one is my favorite.   So smart to have a spot to slip the card!

The Ribbon Jar is having a warehouse sale with lots of ribbons and trims listed.

They’ve also added some pretty Valentine inspired sample packs full of red and pink!

Wombat Wonderland Tunic

Wombat Day is October 22nd, and Karen from HoneyBeGood thought it would be fun to showcase the fabric line Wombat Wonderland!

She sent me some of this super cute fabric and I sewed up a tunic for my daughter.    She loves little creatures and the color purple, so it was meant to be.

The prints are ADORABLE!

The top I made is the Simply Sweet Tunic from Wink Designs.

I loved the finished product, but the process was a little tedious.   There was no size chart, and I had to measure the pattern to find the right size.  Laikyn is 5 and wears a 6 in store bought clothing.   I made a size 7 and she has room to grow.    I don’t like to make muslins, but I definitely suggest that (as does the pattern) if you’re unsure what size to sew.

It has cute details, the elastic in the cuffs and the neck ties.    I chose to sew some measuring tape ribbon on instead of making bias ties, I think that’s my favorite detail!

The fabric is organic sheeting and it has a wonderful silky feel and drapes beautifully.   Very pleased with the quality.

I used the Wombats and Love Hearts for the main body and Sunrays for the coordinate.

Thank you Karen for letting me try some out!

Happy early Wombat Day!  A great excuse to pick up some of this cute fabric, haha!

Wombat Wonderland by Saffron Craig, available at HoneyBeGood

Use code WOMBATS for 20% your purchase through Oct 28th!

Have a great weekend!
