Now that my challenge ent ry is complete, I’m ready for a lighthearted project!

A few weeks ago my Mom asked me about repairing one of my great-grandmother’s quilts. When she passed away our family inherited three of her quilts. We’ve had them since I was a little girl and I’ve always loved them. I had picnics on them, snuggled to read books and used them to build forts. Sweet memories.

Of course, I love them even more now that I can appreciate the work that went into making them. Each one is pieced, appliqued and quilted by hand. They are old-fashioned, but so beautiful to me.

I sat down that night to see the damage and eek. It’s a mess!

Its got holes, missing stitching and the batting is practically disintegrated.

Repairing is pretty much out of the question so I’ve decided to re-create and update with some modern fabric! I broke out my trusty Kona color card and they had the perfect match for the greens. I ordered from Fat Quarter Shop and the fabric arrived yesterday. I am a sucker for good presentation and packaging.

Some other fabrics may have ‘accidentally’ hopped in the cart too…. I picked up some Freebird Ovals in sky and geranium and some Innocent Crush (there are a few prints left and they’re still on sale!)
