New York Beauty Swap

Oh my.  Is that beautiful or what?!

I found this amazing beauty in my mailbox on Friday.

It’s taken me a few days to be able to share with you because I can’t stop staring at it!

My friend Amy organized a secret New York Beauty Pillow Swap.

Kati from The Blue Chair shared this pillow on her blog last week and I secretly hoped it was mine.

You can imagine the shrieking when I opened my mailbox and saw her name on the return label!

The quilting is incredible and the piecing absolutely flawless.     Even the back is gorgeous.

I feel so so lucky, thank you Kati!

I’m actually finishing up the pillow for my swap partner today.

I have a bit more to piece and then on to quilting.

This secret swap stuff is a bit nerve wracking, I hope I got it right for my partner!

Mail day is tomorrow, so I’m off to sew.

Enjoying the weekend and feeling SO thankful for the men and women  who sacrifice to protect my family and our freedom!

Happy Memorial Day, Lindsey

Summer Sewing :: Craft Apron

Summer Sewing Contest at ELQ

I’m excited to be sharing my craft apron today for the Summer Sewing Contest at Ellison Lane Quilts!

I’m going to be teaching sewing classes this summer and working part-time at a creative co-op called Collective.

I wanted to make an apron to wear while I’m working so that I could keep my cell phone nearby for checking on my kiddos, business cards, a pen, etc.

It needed lots of pockets and apparently ruffles too!  I seem to have an addiction to ruffles lately (mostly due to my ruffler foot).

The apron has 8 functional pockets and I designed it so that the criss-cross allows for a variation in depth.

There is one deep enough that I could carry a pair of scissors or a rotary cutter and one shallow enough for a piece of gum.

I added a little apple applique and an embroidered ‘L’ (channeling my inner Laverne & Shirley) and extra long ties so that I could tie in the front.

I look forward to being able to wear it this summer, thank you Jen for the motivation to kick off my summer sewing!

There’s been lots of inspiring projects already and more to come, so be sure to visit the other bloggers Jennifer has gathered.

I’m excited to have Michelle from I like Orange sharing her inspiration for us!

——————–

We have a great giveaway prize for those of you who are ready to tackle this one week challenge.

Even if you’ve never made a quilt before, this is a simple patchwork design that would be great for a first time quilting project.   I will give fair warning, quilting is addicting, so this may not be your last quilt!

I’ve put together some resources for a newbie quilter:

If you find yourself stuck, please let us know in the flickr group or send me an email.

I want you to be successful!   You can do it!

Zakka Style :: Sewing Kit

With each project I make, I like this book more and more!

I tried to make something a bit different from my usual bright/eclectic taste.

I had fun trying to find ways to use this Square Dance panel from Anna Maria Horner.  I’ve never sewn with voile before.  It is amazingly soft!

I used the center of the large square for the lining of the kit and part of a small square for the pincushion.

After cutting the large panel for the lining , I had 2 scallop strips left over.   I was excited that I was able to work them as the binding.

I didn’t have a stamp to use for the exterior, so I cut the selvedge to use as a ‘ribbon’ trim.

I used a temporary adhesive to hold them in place and then stitched a band from the panel fabric to cover the raw edges in the center.

I used a pretty dusty blue Zuwa text print  for the ties.

It turned out so feminine and sweet, I just love it.

A quick project that would make a lovely gift!

Thanks for sharing in the process with me,  Lindsey

Zakka Along Week 7 :: Rain Cloud Mug Rug

This post is part of the Zakka Style Sew Along, please visit here to catch up if you’re just joining us!

——————–

Welcome to week 7!

We’ve completed the first quarter of the sew along and today I have an extra prize to share!

First take a peek at some of the magnets from last week:

This was a challenging project because of the tiny size (1.5″) of each magnet.

I know several of you really pushed yourselves with this project and I’m glad to see you stepping out of your comfort zone and growing your sewing skills!

Let’s see who won the giveaway for this week.   We had 34 entries for week 6 and our winner is #3, Lish, Sew Wunderful!

Congratulations Lish and thank you to Sew Mama Sew for sponsoring this giveaway!

—–

Okay, now I have another winner to announce!

Amy and I decided to break the sew along into 4 quarters and give away a prize at the completion of each quarter.

That way if you weren’t able to meet the weekly giveaway deadline, you still had a chance to win a prize if you linked up your project for that quarter before the 6 weeks were up.

Fat Quarter Shop has graciously offered a $75.00 gift certificate to our 1st quarter winner!

For the first 6 weeks of the sew along we had 322 projects linked up!!  Woohoo!

Our winner of the 1st quarter giveaway is #101, Danielle Raichel with her pincushion from week 3.   Isn’t it cute?

Congratulations and thank you to the Fat Quarter Shop!  Our next quarterly giveaway will be at the completion of week 12.

—–

Are you still with me??  I know this post is total info overload, but now it’s time to jump in and check out our project for this week!

John from Quilt Dad is inspiring us with his Rain Cloud Mug Rug for week 7.   He’s also giving away some fun stuff too!

Projects that are completed and entered this week will be eligible to win our last $30 gift certificate to Zip It!

You may begin linking up your finished Mug Rugs today through Sunday May 20th at 11:59 pm EST for a chance to win the $30 gift certificate to Zip It!

Click on the frog picture below to link up (one) of your projects or to view the entries.

Head on over to visit John and make sure to check out the new issue of Fat Quarterly too!
