Orbit QAL Week 3 :: Another piecing week!

How’s everyone coming along on this Monday?

Today starts week 3 of the QAL and we are still piecing this week.

I know several of you are done, woot!  They are looking awesome.   Add yours to the flickr group if you haven’t yet, I’d love to see it!

Here is Rumeysa’s completed top:

Pinkebody has a scrappy version in progress:

I love the dark yellow corners in the one orbit!

And Rebecca is working on a beautiful top:

I have one row left to sew on mine and I hope to get that finished today.

Next week we will start working on our quilt backing and getting our quilts sandwiched and ready for quilting.

Giveaway :: Daisy Janie “New Leaf” FQ Bundle

Happy Monday!

new-leaf

Today I have a giveaway  from Honey Bee Good.

Karen is offering a fat quarter bundle of the beautiful new fabric from Daisy Janie called “New Leaf”.

These are not typically my colors, I’m not a big fan of yellows and oranges, but these are truly gorgeous.

I purchased some of this new line to make a little mini quilt for Valentine’s Day.

I quilted it with 12 wt thread from Aurifil.   This is a very heavy weight thread and it stitches really beautifully.

This color is a variegated pink, #4660.

——————-

To enter to win the fq bundle, just leave a comment!

Open to all readers.   I will use random.org to pick a winner on Friday, Feb 8th.

If you just can’t wait to buy some, you can find “New Leaf” here.

Karen has also put together gift sets of fabric that include 6 fat 1/8″ pieces and a coordinating wooden spool of thread all packaged in a pretty box.

Use code GIFTBOX at checkout to receive free shipping on these boxes until February 9th!  You can find all of them here.

Good luck!

P.S.  I will share a free pattern for the heart mini this week!

Shopping with Sponsors

I wanted to share a few things that caught my eye this week!

I discovered that Riley Blake is coming out with 108″ wide quilt backing in a few colors of their chevrons and dots.

This excites me because sometimes you just don’t want to piece your quilt back!

Fort Worth Fabric Studio has these colors/prints available for preorder now.    Scheduled to arrive in June 2013.

At Honey Bee Good, Karen has some yummy new fabric instock.   I really love this new line by Daisy Janie called “New Leaf”.

It’s so vibrant and cheerful.   I will be giving away at Fat Quarter Bundle of this line on Monday and sharing a project I made with some of the fabric!

The shop also has a lovely collection of fabric from Sara Lee Parker Textiles.    These are hand screen-printed here in Georgia.

I’ve added a few patterns to my wishlist from Go To Patterns.

As we get closer to Sew South, I’ve been trying to sew up a few more tops for me to take.

The Miss Mod looks like an easy and comfy blouse.  I’m trying to decide if it would be flattering on me, I’ve never tried on a top similar.   Have you?

I also like this bag pattern.   I cringe every time I pay $3.00 at Target for a gift bag.   Especially when you know it’s going straight to the trash.

The gray one is my favorite.   So smart to have a spot to slip the card!

ribbon jar

The Ribbon Jar is having a warehouse sale with lots of ribbons and trims listed.

They’ve also added some pretty Valentine inspired sample packs full of red and pink!

Piecing Batting Scraps with Seam Tape

Have you seen this stuff?

DSC_1925

I got a sample from Pellon a few months back and had a chance to use it this morning.

It’s really quite handy!

I pieced together some batting scraps to sandwich a mini quilt and took some pics to share with you.

DSC_1926

All you need is the tape, scissors, batting scraps and a hot iron.

Trim the edges of your scraps so they can nest as flush as possible next to each other.

DSC_1927

Cut a piece of tape to fit the seam and iron it in place.

Flip and repeat for the backside and that’s it!

DSC_1928

DSC_1931

The packaging says it’s safe for quilting once you’re done as well as machine washable and dryer safe.

I’ll let you know how that goes when I finish my mini.

You can find it at Pellon and JoAnn’s.  Amazon also has it in black.

I’m a hoarder of all scraps, so I’m glad to have a quick way to put the batting ones to use!

Poodle Skirt

Tomorrow is my little girl’s 50th day of Kindergarten and they are celebrating all things 50′s.

Little kids decked out in poodle skirts, pony tails, white tees and blue jeans.    Too much cuteness!

It was much more cost effective to make her a skirt and I found a great tutorial for a simple circle skirt over at MADE.

I used pink fleece from JoAnn’s and found the black and white striped ribbon in the clearance section for a $1.

I printed this poodle and traced it onto a scrap of fabric that I fused with Wonder Under and then appliqued it to the skirt.

For the leash I used fabric glue to secure the ribbon in the shape I wanted and then stitched it down with matching thread.

All for $7, can’t beat that!

Good for twirling too!

Beehive ATL + a fabric sale

I moved into my space at the Beehive Atlanta yesterday.  Phew!

I’m crossing my fingers that my things do well there.  I’m quite nervous!

Handmade coops are a wonderful thing and I’m so thankful to have the opportunity at both Collective and Beehive.

I want to do a little store tour of both in the coming weeks.   It’s like being inside of Etsy, so much gorgeous, handcrafted goodness all around!

Also wanted to share that Fort Worth Fabric is having a 25% off sale on all Moda fabrics.

I want to get some of this Mama Said Sew text print.   Can’t beat under $7 a yard!

Sale includes Bella Solids too which are $4.88 a yard. (eek!)   Good until end of day tomorrow 10/17.
