For the last week of the sew along, the project is an adorable trio of nesting boxes designed by Laurraine Yuyama of Patchwork Pottery.

Kati of From the Blue Chair is inspiring us this week with her set of Christmas themed nesting boxes.   They are so cute and I love the free motion stitching designs she incorporated.

Be sure to visit her, she has taken great photos to help you see the finishing technique a bit better and she’s offering a giveaway too!

After finishing your nesting boxes, come back and link them up for a chance to win a bundle of Le Femme from Robert Kaufman.

You may begin linking up your finished Nesting Boxes today through Sunday September 16th at 11:59 pm EST for a chance to win the fat quarter bundle of Le Femme from Robert Kaufman.

Be sure to come back next week as we wrap up the sew along!

**Update: Our guest blogger for this week wasn’t able to do her post, so there will not be an inspiration post this week.   I apologize for any confusion.  Please keep Heather in your thoughts!

Hello week 16!

Last week you all made such well-dressed little elephants…

(click on the picture to be linked to the creator of each bookmark)

How cute?!

All of the modifications are so clever.  I especially love Simone’s addition of arms.   It really changes the look!

Alright, so we had 18 entries and the winner of the $15 gift certificate to the Intrepid Thread is #12, Kirsten @ Gemini Stitches.

Congratulations Kirsten and thank you so much to the Intrepid Thread!

This weeks project is the Patchwork Ribbon designed by Melody Miller (of Ruby Star fame).

I love the unexpected usefulness of this project!  I would have never dreamed up making fabric ribbon, but it is such a great idea and would really be the cherry on top of a handmade gift.

If you decide to make some patchwork ribbon  of your own, be sure to come back and enter it for a chance to win an AMAZING prize pack of Cosmo threads from Lecien.

You may begin linking up your finished Patchwork Ribbon today through Sunday July 22nd at 11:59 pm EST for a chance to win the Cosmo thread sampler from Lecien!

Zakka Style :: Patchwork Potholders

This post is part of the Zakka Style Sew Along, please visit here to catch up if you’re just joining us!

——————–

Welcome to week 13 of the Zakka Style sew along!

I’m filling in for Penny today as we take a peek at the Patchwork Potholder project in the book.

I have said this about every thing I’ve made from this book, but I LOVE this project!

Retro Mama designed the potholders and they are a functional and fun project to make.

I love when you make something and when you’re done you think, wow I did that!    That’s how I felt about binding the circle.

I wasn’t so sure how that would work out, but it was kind of magical.

Kim did update the instructions for applying the binding on her blog.   You can view that here.

She added a step by step tutorial with pictures, so you may find that more helpful if you’ve never bound anything before.

I followed the instructions on her blog versus the book and they are very well written and easy to follow along.

I always love choosing fabrics for a project.

I had a retro kitchen print from Michael Miller and it seemed just perfect for a set of potholders!

I used Essex yarn dyed linen in flax as my neutral.   I can’t say enough good things about the Essex linen.

I always have slippage problems when I sew with 100% linen and using the cotton/linen blend makes things much more stable and less frustrating!

I know you’re going to have fun with this project, I can’t wait to see what you make!

The link up is open and this week’s prize is a $25 gift certificate to Sew Mama Sew.

Get sewing and be sure to ask questions in the flickr group if you have any problems!

xx Lindsey

This is a project that will require a bit more patience, but I know you all can do it if you take your time.

Make sure to read the Errata page, this project does have some errors printed in the book.

Krista from Spotted Stone will be inspiring you this week with her zip organizer!  (actually organizers, she made 3!)

Zakka Sew Along :: Sourcing Supplies

I’ve had several emails and comments about where to purchase linen and other supplies for the sew along.

I’ve put together a list of places to buy some of the supplies used in the book.

All of the sources I’m sharing today are online shops, but do check around your local fabric shops to see what you can find!

Robert Kaufman :: Essex linen/cotton blend and Essex Yarn Dyes available at:

Grayline Fabrics :: Judy solid linen

Fabric-store.com :: Middle weight linen

Zip-It

Zakka Boutique

Sugar Carousel

Bag Is Good

While Baby Naps

Cosmo Floss by Lecien available at:

Perle Cotton

Heather Bailey Designer Felt

Lupin (UK store)

One of the Flock

These shops are not the only places to find the supplies you need, but I think will help you get prepared for the projects ahead.

I also had a question about how much linen is used in all of the projects.    I combined each requirement and came up with about 10 yards total to complete all 24 projects.

Remember, you don’t have to use linen.   Use what you love and what your budget allows!

This list does not cover all of the supplies you will need, so make sure to read through your book and make a list so you know what you have on hand or what you need to stock up on.

Looking forward to tomorrow!   The Zig Zag tote is up first, I hope you’re ready for some fun and amazing giveaways as we sew together over the next 24 weeks!

Lindsey

Zakka Style Sew-Along!

Earlier in February, I talked about wanting to do a sew along  with Rashida’s book Zakka Style and I’m excited to finally share the details!

Amy and I have put together a sew along/blog hop that will include 24 fabulous bloggers and you!

There are 24 projects in the book and we will be sewing right through it from start to finish.

The sew along starts Monday April 2nd with the first project in the book and will continue through Monday September 10th with a new project  introduced each Monday.

Each blogger will sew a different project and will be sharing their finished project and inspiration with you.

There will be a week in between each project to give you time to sew along &  I’ll be sewing along right beside you.    I sure hope you’ll join in on the fun!

I’ll be sharing more soon, but wanted to give you a chance to prepare since you will need a copy of the book to participate.

I’ve compiled a list of some places you can purchase online and it also comes in e-book form too!

E-book:

Paperback Book:

There will be some lovely prizes offered each week and we are so thankful to have the support of:

If you are interested in participating as a sponsor please email Amy, thank you!
