Finally getting around to sharing my finished pillow for my swap partner!
This was the first New York Beauty block I’ve made and I was a bit nervous about it.
Paper piecing + curves had me a little freaked out, but they are really not so bad!
I always like it when something comes together easier than you anticipate. I used Sara’s tutorial from the NYB Quilt Along and it definitely helped the process. Along with lots of pins and patience.
The finished block sat on my design wall for awhile because I wasn’t sure how to quilt it. I’m glad that I didn’t rush myself.
I mostly used the seams as a guide to echo the piecing and then had a little fun in the center.
I started by stitching concentric V shapes and then realized if I shifted the piece 90 degrees clockwise and repeated the pattern, it created a fun star design.
I did an envelope back and bound the edges which was another first. I really love how it frames the pillow.
The pillow is still en route, so I’m excited to see what my partner thinks when it arrives!

this is stunning! i’ve been seeing the NY beauties around blog land, and a lot of them i look at and think it’s pretty and i appreciate the work that went into it, but it doesn’t really call to me and say “omg, i need to get on the NY beauty bandwagon”.
yours TOTALLY calls to me! i like that you left the centre simpler – it feels more modern, less busy, plus you picked an awesome background fabric. i’m not even a huge fan of FMF, but your pillow is gorgeous! i’d be so sad to send that away!

Ansolutely love this! Omitting the central part of the pattern was brilliant. It makes the block so much calmer, so much more modern. And gives space for your awesome quilting!
And the touch with the binding is a great idea. I’m always so obsessed about getting my pillow corners perfectly sharp, but this eliminates that worry entirely.
