Craft Book Month :: Sew Up a Home Makeover

Today I’m sharing a new project as a part of Craft Book Month hosted by Craftbuds.

I jumped at the chance to join in this month long celebration because books + crafting = total happiness in my world!

The latest craft book to join my library is Sew Up a Home Makeover by Lexie Barnes.

The author describes it as a book to help you make ‘little changes that make a big difference’.

It’s not your typical sewing book, there are no patterns in the back.

It’s a book full of 50+ inspiring ways to use fabric and color in your home to help make your space feel more like ‘you’.

The chapters are broken down by room and she covers projects and instructions for every room in the house (including babies, kids and teens).

I picked a Bolster Pillow and customized it for my daughter’s bedroom.

The instructions help you to either recover an existing bolster in your home or to make one from scratch.

I made one from scatch and added in a leftover Dresden from the quilt I made my little girl last year.

This project came together very easily and would have been faster had I not added the applique.  Total sew time about an hour and a half.

A little tip if you make this project ::  when you are attaching the circular ends to the center tube, wait to cut your notches until you’ve pinned both pieces together.

The book has you stay-stitch the circles and notch around every inch, doing the same for the center tube first.   This makes it hard to pin together because you won’t be cutting the notches exactly the same when doing the pieces separately.

Sew Up a Home Makeover is a great book if you love DIY and fabric!

I’ve bookmarked several of  the projects for other rooms in the house.  I like being able to use my favorite fabrics in the everyday spaces of my home.   Handmade decor really adds a special touch.

Do you like to DIY in addition to sewing and quilting?

If you come to my house you’ll always find several things in the process of being redone.   I have an addiction to making things over!

You can find Sew Up a Home Makeover here.
