*yawn* I messed with this way too late last night! Thank you for your opinions yesterday.  I figured out what was bothering me about the sashing.  It was a bit too thick. I cut the width from 2.5 to 1 inch and I think that gives a cleaner, less busy, look.   I also added the […]

Yes, you’re definitely on to something! The narrower sashing looks great! The berry or no sashing a little too bland.ReplyCancel

Love the 1″ scrappy sashing. i think it rounds everything out just nicely. to me, the solid takes away the great brightness from the dresdens. how are you planning to do the back? (the kona berry with a 2.5″ vertical strip of the scraps would be really cool, if you want an opinion on that. :D)ReplyCancel

  • i either like the skinny sashing or no sashing at all. both look great! beautiful quilt!ReplyCancel

  • Oooh I missed commenting earlier but you have made a great decision – the ‘new’ looks really lovely xReplyCancel

  • Love the new!ReplyCancel

  • Carla

Love the berry sashing!! I think it makes your quilt pop!! Gorgeous! I also like the striped sashing, but with the solid sashing around the outside. I’m sure whatever you do will be awesome!! 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Danielle's Dish

I like the new the best.ReplyCancel

  • I still like the one without sashing best, but my second favorite is your new 1″ wide strip sashing. That looks very cute too!ReplyCancel

  • Amy B.

I’m digging the Kona Berry! It makes those Dresden plates pop!ReplyCancel

  • Sallie

I like the new best, too!ReplyCancel

  • the new thinner sashing is my favorite. that’s what was bugging me the first time around too.ReplyCancel

  • I can’t decide between the Berry or the print…they both are great. The Plain Jane is to bland. Beautiful job on the dresden plates!ReplyCancel

I like the new one and the one without sashing or maybe just a border of the sashing. 🙂 It’s just lovely Linds!ReplyCancel

I’m still mulling over what to do with the sashing.   Or whether to sash at all! This is one of the suggestions.   Here’s a photoshop mockup to get a visual. I think I like it.   I am  a bit anxious at the thought of piecing all the strips.  I want this to be a […]

Well, you won’t be able to finish completely until you get two more blocks from me : ) I know it’s more work, but I LOVE the look of this sashing.ReplyCancel

  • LOVE the sashing!!!!!!!!!ReplyCancel

  • Carla

I really like the sashing… Beautiful! Personally, I would add sashing to the outer rim too, I think it would pull everything together. Maybe you could add in photoshop as you’ve already done… Maybe try a couple solid colours to see what looks best! 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Jennifer at Ellison Lane Quilts

Oh it’s so pretty Lindsey! I love the sashing. I probably would do sashing on the outside too but either way, it is beautiful. L is going to LOVE it!!ReplyCancel

  • Love it with the sashing–I’d put it on the outer edge as your border too! This is such a treasure!ReplyCancel

  • Danielle's Dish

    I love the look. 🙂ReplyCancel

  • I like it. I agree about the scrappy border too. Would it be possible to leave more white in between sashings? It might help distinguish between the scrappy-ness of the sashings and then into the scrappy dresdens…ReplyCancel

  • I think this sashing adds a certain cool, edgy, funkiness to a standard Dresden design. I think that the binding will be enough of a border….more sashing might make the dresdens look boxed in. Make sense?

Also, how’d you do that Photoshop mockup?! I’m always dying to see my design and not just imagine it! Thanks. 🙂ReplyCancel

    • ooh, that’s another idea I need to try out. Sheesh, with all the time I’m going to spend making a ‘pretend’ quilt I could get the dang thing done! LOL.
I will do a tute on doing a photoshop quilt!ReplyCancel

  • Sallie

    love the sashing.ReplyCancel

  • How absolutely wordenful!! Your Mom certainly does have a hidden talent she does beautiful work. I can see it now .you’ll have your Mom working on some of the Ruby McKim blocks or other penny square designs of the early 20th century to fill your love of things old! What a keepsake!ReplyCancel

I just had to share this video of my sweet girl.   She had her first ballet recital last Saturday. I tell ya, watching your child doing something they enjoy just makes you so happy.   I thought my heart might burst watching her up there singing her little heart out! I had the happiest Mother’s Day, […]

happy birthday to your little girl!

    i vote for sashing. 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Superb party outfit – not showing my twins or they’ll both want the same, and my dress making skills are a tad rusty!!

For my two-pence worth, scrappy sashing around the whole quilt, not individual blocks…ReplyCancel

    • Thank you! I LOVE the idea of scrappy sashing. I think that really goes along with the funky look I’m going for.ReplyCancel

  • Mary Jo Larson

What an adorable birthday outfit. I love the Castle. I enjoyed your interview at EllisonLane. Mary JoReplyCancel

  • Not that you should listen to me, but I say “no sashings”. I think it looks great as is!ReplyCancel

  • Jennifer at Ellison Lane Quilts

What about a piano key border and no sashing? That is what I am doing with mine. 🙂 They look super and I know she will love it!

LOVE LOVE Laikyn’s birthday outfit. Girl, you have some mad skills with your applique and the skirt is sooo cute. She looks just like you! Sounds like she is feeling the love as one should do on their birthdays. (BTW, Grace would have LOVED the princess table cloth. She is very much into princesses all of a sudden.) Hope you’ve had a great day!ReplyCancel

    • ooh. I need to go google that, lol. I want to see yours in progress missy! I hope Grace had a good bday!!ReplyCancel

  • love the cute tee (how detailed!!!) and the skirt is just so fun looking, she’ll get a lot of use out of it I’m sure. 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Hi! I just found your blog, and am so happy to have found another Lindsey in the sewing world! 🙂
The birthday outfit is adorable and I love those Dresdens!!! I tend to like sashing, but I think it would look nice either way!! Happy stiching!ReplyCancel

    • Thank you! Your blog is so cute, I absolutely love the header and your sassy shoes!ReplyCancel

I don’t know what sashing is… but I LOVE it the way it is… but I know that whatever you decide to do it will be fabulous! I’m glad that I saw Miss L’s birthday outfit in person… it was so very cute (makes me want a girl so that I can stay up until 3 am sewing her something fabulous for her birthday!)
    xoxo

I’m a lot older than 4, and I still love it when my Birthday DAY festivities grow into a Birthday WEEK.
Maybe you can post a photo with sashing auditions to compare without sashing. I do like Jennifer’s idea of piano keys.ReplyCancel
