I participated in a mini quilt swap between the Atlanta and Ireland Modern Quilt Guilds that just wrapped up.
This is the quilt I made for my lovely partner, Eva.
I was a bit intimidated in my pairing because she has such great taste and talent!
I stalked her flickr favorites and soon realized that we have very similar likes.
She had a lot of paper pieced patterns ( Ringo Pie-style) marked as favorites, and I’ve really wanted to give that style of piecing a try.
I am so glad I decided to give it a go. What an absolute thrill to complete!
This is the type of project that gives you such a sense of satisfaction. It’s like putting together a puzzle and as each section would come together I was straight up jumping around with excitement. ha! I’m a total nerd!
I would have never thought I could make something so intricate. Paper piecing is an amazing technique.
The pattern is from the Sew Out Loud quilt along from a few months ago. All free patterns that are blow-you-away amazing!

Her post includes lots of tutorial links that help you get started paper piecing with freezer paper templates.
The quilt is still en route, so I hope I got it right!

Such a beautiful piece…I can’t believe it is your first paper pieced project!! I love the colors, quilting, and fabric. I just completed my first EPP project and want to give this style of paper piecing a go because I love puzzles!
Thank you Gina! I have paper pieced before, just never this style. If you love puzzles, then you will absolutely LOVE this technique. It’s finicky because of all the small pieces, but so worth it. I’ve yet to EPP, so I need to try that next!

This blew me away. I literally had to close my hanging jaw. I sooooooo love this, I am so inspired to make this! I’ll have to sew more before I attempt this, as I’m just a beginner and haven’t even tried paper piecing yet.

Lindsey, Your quilt is beautiful. Great job. I have only made three very small blocks of paper piecing before. Recently I decided to try paper piecing again, and it is so much fun. i may try this pattern you just finished. I need to teach myself quite a bit more. I get lost when the patterns jump from say 7 to 8 – when 8 is across the other size of the pattern and doesn’t actually connect with 8 (does that make sense?). Anyway, your piece is wonderful.

Thank you Kelly! Definitely give it a try. I totally know what you mean regarding numbering, sometimes it doesn’t make any sense. Usually when it jumps, step 8 is just putting the fabric over that number and then sewing piece 9 on and eventually they will all connect. I don’t know if I’m explaining that clearly. Thank goodness for the seam ripper, ha!
